Border Terriers Dogs 101 (Starring Maisy the Border Terrier) – Animal Facts
Join Maisy as we check out the Border Terrier Dog Breed.
The Border Terrier is a small, rough-coated breed of dog in the terrier group. Bred as a fox and vermin hunter, the Border Terrier shares ancestry with the Dandie Dinmont Terrier[1] and the Bedlington Terrier.[1]
The Border Terrier was officially recognized by The Kennel Club in Great Britain in 1920, and by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1930. The border terrier was bred to have long enough legs to keep up with the horses and other foxhounds, which traveled with them, and small enough bodies to crawl in the burrows of foxes and chase them out so the hunters had a blank shot. The foxhounds that traveled with them were not small enough to do the Border terrier’s job.
In 2006, the Border Terrier ranked 81st in number of registrations by the AKC,[2] while it ranked 10th in the United Kingdom.[3]
In 2008, the Border Terrier ranked 8th in number of registrations by the UK Kennel Club.

I love the terrier breed. I have been the proud "puppy/doggo parent" to a Jack Russell, Rat Terrier, Mixed breed terrier, and now as of 1 month ago I received a Border Terrier for my one year wedding anniversary gift. They are very intelligent, loyal, cunning, and energetic. I am in love with my new companion; so much so I'm trying to figure out how I can bring her to work with me. I am looking forward to many years of companionship with my scruffy fur baby.
You have spelt BRITAIN wrong!!!!
I believe that I have a border terrier but don't know for sure, she has all the characteristics of a border terrier. How can I find out for sure? She's about 2 to 3 years old. I can be reached at jrhodes551@gmail.com. oh and if she is a pure bred how can I get her registered?
Do they shed? Thx again
We've had our rescue Olly for around nine years now. We thought she was just a mutt for a while, but we're pretty sure she's a border (though a scruffy one at that, since we don't have her stripped). At any rate, she's the sweetest little thing and loves to cuddle. I wouldn't know what I would do without her.
thx i have a dog now
Hello all . 2 kids under 6 years old in family. Debating between border terrier ans boston terrier. Any suggestions?
Dogs are human's best friend.
I have a pitbull and weenie weiner dog and Maltese puppys
My border terrier has gone as far as to learn how to release his own leash 😂
True escape artists. Incredibly intelligent dogs
Masiy is your dog right? She is cute. Hopefully I can get one soon. Also I think it’s great how much she can adapt and love kids. I’m a kid and my sister is 5. I really like your videos. Shedding is the biggest thing because my dad is allergic. My neighborhood has tons of different dog breeds, like great hounds corgis Dalmatians are border terriers good with other dog breeds because I’ve seen some dog fights. My aunts Chihuahua and Pomeranian mix got in a massive fight with my cousins black lab. So I’ll they get in fights like that because there are dogs EVERY WHERE in my neighborhood?
This dog is a mix. The tail is not characteristic of a border terrier.
