Somewhere at about 8300ft when we stared up at the first of many steep snow-covered inclines with our crampon-less shoes in 2 feet of snow, shrugged and said, “Well, there’s no going back now.” Hoku on the other hand seemed to be able to walk over the snow easily without sinking in.
