Is the Australian Cattle Dog right for you and your family? Definitely! We are basing our opinion on just this one dog. As with any breed there are variations on a theme. Mr Cody here is a very nice dog I’m sure there are some others that are not. I think generally speaking, however, if they’re half as nice as this dog then they’re going to be a great dog!

  1. I ended up with a raptor/snapping great white shark. I was bruised and bloodied for the first 10 month — anything frontal. Now a year and half will stop before clamping down. So be aware of this trait. She is overall sweet but is also collar smart. She is a female Red Heeler aka ACD and weighs 66 lbs.

  2. Luv these guys but warning to beginners do your research. Hate seeing these guys being rehomed when not trained or socialized properly. They have dingo in their genetics so there is a bit of pack mentality in their instincts and needs a confident handler. My guy is my best friend and goes everywhere with me especially solo backpacking trips.

  3. My guy learned all my tricks in the first 2 weeks of owning and he was only 11 weeks old. Still teaching him new stuff at 3 yrs old. Very intelligent.

  4. People always say these dogs are not great for children or how tough they can be, but my experience with the one i owned she was the best most well behaved dog with all the love to give.

  5. We have an Australian Cattle Dog Mix (53%) but definitely could be pure bread from what I see in her. Everything Garret described about the beautiful pup in the video is spot on with what we have experienced with our. Ours loves open field running, we are fortunate to have a 10 acre open (unfenced) play area for her to run and explore. Love this dog and would definitely consider owning another.

  6. 14 week australian shepard i wanna know where his fkn batteries are!!??!!?? He is cute and awesome example of his breed BUT where are his batteries!!??!! i cannot take him too far yet his last shots is dec 27th then i believe it is 2 more weeks… good thing is we have a 4 year old mutt that plays with him alot but i take the mutt to lowes once or twice a week to give her a break from the puppy… they know my dogs name at lowes.. they have no clue of my name i just say my dogs name and they are like oh ok.. lol

  7. I had a red heeler, Buddy, for 13 years. I’ve had a blue, Reggie, for five years. These are the most amazing dogs on the planet in my opinion. All they want is to make you happy by burning calories. Your job is to figure out how you want the calories burned. The love learning new things and going places. I’m blessed with my career to not have to leave my dog at home alone much. I’m not sure if recommend this breed if you work 9-5 and no one is home. I hear they can be destructive in that environment. Mine haven’t been but I haven’t left them regularly for long periods. But they definitely want to go with you everywhere you go. Go to the bathroom the dog is with you. Get the mail the dog is with you. Get up to grab the remote, the dog is with you. They will turn on the guilt when you have to leave them behind. They act like they’re on death row.

  8. I love heelers. Right now I have my third one, a red girl. Awesome working bloodline. But like you said, they need a job to do to be happy. Super loyal and sweet. Weary of strangers though, socializing is a must. Amazing guard dogs.

  9. I have a pure cattle dog and a half cattle dog half Australian shepherd and a few that are mixed with cattle dog or Aussie. There’s so many in my area (Kentucky)
They are wonderful dogs. I have a couple videos on my channel with them.
Love them and I love all dogs and have a lot of dogs. Heelers are just awesome.

  10. Yeah sure Australian Shepherds and the Blue Healers are smart and sassy in their own rights guess what happens when you mix the breeds😂😂. I had that mix breed while growing up and she was the best dog we ever had. Always watched out for my brother and I from snakes (and discipline 😂) and my dad from multiple crazy cows. She didn't put up with strangers being asses around us, and was so loving to everyone.

  11. My last two dogs have been ACD x GSD cross. Very smart right away as puppies, but can become stubborn as soon as they learn they can.
They are a working breed and never tire. Walking is 45 minutes minimum per day but the longer you walk them/work them the sweeter they behave. Over 1 hr walks per day is ideal.
Really family dogs, I can't imagine how they would behave if left alone, they would probably go feral. The earlier you can socialize them the better.
I have a cat and I was able to train one dog to leave her alone, but the youngster won't stop herding her so we have gates in the house.

  12. Took me a solid 2 years to get my blue heeler where he is calmer and listens well. Never trained a dog for off leash and I thought I might try that soon but everything else he does so well with. I use a gentle leader face harness when walking or taking him places and he is so well behaved people are always wanting to say hello to him. I know most heelers are standoffish but mine got his mothers personality because he is an absolute social butterfly. First ever heeler I've had an it was a lot of work to get him here but well worth it.

  13. Blues and red have a reputation over here in Australia for being uber smart but some individuals can be psychos as well. I don't know what you need for bite work but I would be surpised if you couldn't train a bluey to do almost anything – and they have endurance for days.

  14. That dog did work before this video started.

That's the real lesson.. exhaust your dog. They don't do anything but chew, rest, eat, drink, or exercise.

This dude talking About bite training a heeler is ironic… my heeler is sweet as pie, but if you get near her home, she will tear you up. She crawls to lovers. She attacks weird vibe.

  15. a tough dog in a little package… mini schnauzer. lol they think they are great danes but they are child friendly if raised right. 100 pound dog in a 16 pound package..lol

  16. My acd is great with all my kids. Off leash trained the best camping and hiking buddy. He is 8 now and is blind but it doesnt stop him
