I think you should have tried opening his mouth when he was pretty young and would have got the practice by then and the growling wouldn't have been there while administering medicine..
It shouldn't have been the problem now,but now it's too late and risky..
This is not a good method some time dog will get irritate nd start growling so dont give anything forcefully bt if u want to give medicine then give it with food or gravy, icecream honey etc…
