  1. <3 what one also should keep in mind is that the working dogs also have days where is happening nothing. so you can also overstimmulate them and then get into the situation where you cant get them calm anymore. so when mine is 2 days in the row with me at the stable for 4 to 5 hours, then the next day is chill day. when she cant have stable times, i walk at least 2 hours yes.. on chill days she just wants to be where i am, be it in bed cuddeling or sitting in the garden. i believe that is the most important thing to consider when getting one: can they be with you. rest grows together.

  2. Mine is not too keen on going for walks around the neighborhood unless she gets to carry her frisbee with her, but after like 20 minutes, she’s over it and ready for her bed. Laziest dog I’ve ever had! Kind of bummed at first but I’m liking the lazy life now 😂

  3. Great info you have on heelers, glad I found it.
My dog was a rescue pup, she’s now 3 1/2 and about 65 lbs. Listed as an American Blue Heeler mix. It’s my first heeler. She has ears like a springer spaniel, and looks more more pictures of a blue spaniel I’ve seen on the internet.
As a pup, yes she tried to herd us by nipping ankles and lots of hand nipping. A lot of work but that has mostly stopped. When I get her running in the yard, she will run towards me and try to snap at me, not in a mean way, I guess that’s what they just do as a herding dog lol.
We work from home so she gets a lot of attention. I always say she’s more a person than a dog.
Never chewed anything in the house, super easy to potty train, very protective but never mean and very smart but stubborn. YES she sheds, big time.
The biggest problem I have is she is very scared of loud noises, she will hide under a table, or if I’m outside she will pull me home, yes she’s very strong. She is also scared of trucks, where she won’t go for walks if she sees or hears one, and she looks around as she’s always on the look out for them.
She’s on the lazy side and comfy in the house until she get bored but when she wants your attention, she lets you know it, lol.
Im trying to get her to walk more and not be so scared but that’s the most difficult problem I have, and if that’s the only problem I can’t really complain.
Thanks for your heeler info 🙂

  4. My Toby is a 2 year old sweetheart and we have a medium sized yard for him to play in. But it's so HOT here in Utah in summer and so COLD in winter that it limits the time we can spend outside.
He wants to be outdoors as much as we allow but he tolerates the house very well also.
We have to pretty constantly throw his ball any time we are outside…fetch is his obsession and we've had to train him to cool off and drink water when he's playing ball because he would just go forever if we alllowed it…he seems to be unaware of how hot it really gets (most days over 100 degrees). He would play ball until he had a heat stroke if we didn't make him take many breaks in the shade with water.
Toby is skittish and TERRIFIED of thunder and fireworks.
In Utah we have to deal with fireworks throughout the entire month of July, not just the 4th… because Utah celebrates its statehood on July 24.
Any advice on how to calm him down. It seems to get worse, not better as time goes on.
After a night of hearing fireworks, Toby is so traumatized that he pretty much refuses to go outside for the next few days except to potty. And he's so skittish even during potty trips. He loses all sense of fun and personality for a few days and I wish I could somehow help him to know that he's OK when he hears fireworks or thunder.

  5. My boy gets plenty of exercise but a dog behaviourist told me he doesn’t get enough deep sleep because he’s following me around all day even if it’s just from room to room. I need to figure out how to get him to turn off and detach. Even in the crate he’s not sleeping well because every time I move he picks his head up (got a camera to see what he’s doing). Apparently the lack of sleep is making him more high strung and less self-control.

  6. My Heeler is 6-1/2. I have always walked her 2-3 miles a day. I have also use a Chuck-it to throw the Glow Ball in the back yard, even at night. About 3 weeks ago, I got a mini Chuck-it that I take on our lunchtime walks in the woods. We walk about 1-1/2 miles, but Blu runs most of the way, chasing the ball. She loves it. (Always take water and a collapsible dish). We get back to my job and she pants for 15-20 minutes, then zonks out for her afternoon nap. I've had her since she was 10 weeks old. She's the best dog I've ever had.

  7. I just got a little girl. She's 12 weeks old and all her siblings are blue, but she's still white. Only one who's still white. Know if she's gonna still get coloration?

  8. Love Queensland’s I just got a little girl last week looks like her ears are starting to stand up how long can it take for them to stand all the way up

  9. We just got our cattle dog a week ago. Holy smokes!!! You are not kidding with your 'energy level' explanation. He is 10 weeks old. Loves to collect leaves in the yard (which we found out after our first storm last week.) He nips but is already having moments of controlling it with "Mommy" (a.k.a.- me) but not so much with "Daddy" (my Hubs). Toys have helped him a lot but he already has his favorites. Thank you so much for the education on our lovely new baby!

  10. For me, the dog would be a blessing. I am retired now with too much time on my hands. I could easily give the dog a lot of time to play runaround and do tasks or me. I can't wait to get one.

  11. Here in San Angelo they have two Australian cattle dogs for adoption. One dog is one-year-old the other is 2 years old. Are they still trainable at that age? Also, would they be able to be bonded with me?

  12. I walk Moose, our 6year old female red heeler, roughly 5 times a day. Most of these walks are to keep her intelligent mind stimulated. We are lucky enough to have a high school and large field adjacent to our house, so she also gets enough off leash exercise. She knows our routine and comes to remind me when it’s time for the next outing. I average 11,000 steps each day. By bedtime she is a very sleepy girl.

  13. Hi there!
I have an ACD pup and so far we have been doing really well! I'm just worried because we live an apartment, good thing is it's a nice spaced apartment.
I'm worried that he won't be happy because I don't have a yard.
I take him outside for walks as much as I can and he seems to just be content with being around me. I just worry that he'll need more and more space as he grows and that he won't be happy with me.

There's a family with a big yard willing to take him in but I'm so in love with my puppy and it would break my heart to let him go.

    Any advice?
Would it be better for puppy to go with people with a bigger place or can I make it work as long as I put in the work.

  14. Like you said some dogs don't for exercise all they just sit around I've seen Blue Heelers that sit in trucks all day with their owners they only go into stores and that's it they don't get any exercise and if you put a time limit on it then people will see this and start calling people and turning them in to the dog pounds and the police say old dog isn't being exercised enough and the police will take it down there is Authority which they don't have to take your dog away I've just went through this somebody took my dog out of my truck saying that it was too hot for him to be in there but he just gotten out of the river which ice cold and he was soaking wet there was no chance of him overheating and they turned him into the pound you people that call about animal cruelty when there's no annually cruelty I've had my limit with these people they're all over concerned about my dog but they won't take care of their own f**** animals excuse my language I'm in the middle of an investigation on police corruption and terrorism they've been harassing me and terrorizing me stealing my dog ticketing me trespassing me on property I'm not on and I have some jerk call the police about my dog and have them steal my dog out of my vehicle break into my vehicle and steal my dog I trained him not to get out of the vehicle so somebody had to take him out

  15. I wasn’t walking nor exercising my dog enough and he began to act badly and bark incessantly. I began a new routine and started to exercise him daily. Everything changed and he turned into a Super Obedient dog and now I take him with me everywhere, everyday. I never dreamed that we would become sooo close and such good friends.

  16. my heeler is 4 months and loves going to the dog park with our shiba inu, they chase each other all over the park and also play fetch. Both of them have all of their shots of course. They are very difficult to walk together though, they fight ALOT on walks.

  17. I bought a half dozen rubber balls that I leave out in the house for my cattle dog…he plays with them all day which helps if I can’t work and play with him outside..

  18. I decided to watch this again even though our 10 month old ACD gets plenty of exercise and therefore so do we. It seems that it's as beneficial to us as it is to our dogs 😂. I'll note that our young GSD contributes to his and the ACD's workout by initiating lots of play.

  19. Haha, I just got to this after I posted on your other vid. Yes, I'm also an at least 2 hours a day gal. 😊
