On October 18, 1963, a French cat named Félicette became the first and only feline to travel to space. #shorts #shortsfeed #cat #launched #factsaboutanimals
She was sent up in a rocket, known as Veronique AG1, from a base in the Algerian Sahara desert. The purpose of the mission was to study the effects of space travel on living creatures, and Félicette was chosen because of her small size and docile temperament.
During her 15-minute flight, Félicette was fitted with electrodes to monitor her brain activity and movements. She was also trained to press a lever in exchange for a reward of food, and during the flight, she successfully completed the task. Despite concerns that the rocket might explode, Félicette survived the journey and was recovered by a rescue team. She was later euthanized so that scientists could study the electrodes implanted in her brain.

Félicette’s mission was largely overshadowed by the success of human spaceflight, and her story was largely forgotten until the 1990s. In recent years, however, there has been renewed interest in her mission, with some advocating for greater recognition of her contribution to the early days of space exploration.
