This video is not entirely correct in describing the Sealyham Terrier breed. Sealyham Terriers are extremely clever dogs, learning things very quickly, but can occasionally display their Terrier independent streak as "situational" ignorance. Sealyhams are also quieter than most Terriers, being extremely affectionate and playful while also loving to cuddle with their humans. This is a high energy breed that most owners still affectionately describe as "couch potatoes". A DNA test is now available for identification of PLL carrier animals and is used by breeders as they work to eliminate this eye problem from the Sealyham Terrier breed.
We have not run into training issues, and in fact our Sealyham was housebroken in a week. They are headstrong though which can sometimes complicate training compliance.
I have a Sealyham puppy. So far she’s been super easy to train. In just one week since we’ve had her, she’ll reliably sit and stay. She’ll tell us if she needs to go potty outside. She’ll stop barking in her crate if I say no; I couldn’t believe it! However, she refuses walk on leash. She just digs in her heels. And she definitely does not come unless there are treats involved. Overall, super smart, but she is stubborn like a true terrier.
Sealyhams are intelligent dogs and like many terriers have a stubborn streak. They are not difficult to train and make wonderful companions. They are loyal, friendly and have a sense of humour! A huge, loving dog with a massive personality in a compact body!
