American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier. Or Amstaff, as his friends call him, is a great companion and good with kids. He’s friendly with strangers as long as you are around, if not he can get quite grumpy. But not as grumpy as when he meets other dogs, now that’s a show!

Puppies are docile, happy-go-lucky, and easy to train. When he grows up he shows affection but doesn’t overdo it.

He loves a good walk, but knows when he’s had enough, he certainly won’t be tiring you out too much; you can take lazy strolls together which he’ll really enjoy. If neither of you are up for a walk, then a bit of a play in the garden will be more than enough some days.

He’s not so vain, and therefore doesn’t need too much grooming, his coat will look great with minimal effort. Quite the muscle man, he looks pretty tough, but he can be agile and graceful when he wants to be.

Interesting facts: As well as being bred for battle, the nervous breeders engineered a calm side for ease of handling, this has stood the test of time and become what he’s best known for. They’re also called ‘The Nanny’ because of their love for kids.
