Snowy adventures in Switzerland! We just returned from our trip to Graubünden, Switzerland, and it has been an absolute dream 🏔️
On our first day, we went snowshoeing in the idyllic Val Müstair valley and were greeted with some fresh snowfall ❄️
Despite the limited views, there was something magical about trekking through the snow, it felt almost surreal even. The world around us seemed to hush, leaving only the soft crunch of our snowshoes on the freshly fallen snow.
And it’s safe to say that our dogs had a blast too! While they went crazy with zoomies, they cleverly followed our snowshoe-marked paths, as the snow was quite deep. Some smart dogs we have!
While snowshoeing is a wonderful way to explore nature in winter, it does require a bit more preparation and special gear compared to those summer hikes. Before heading out, it is important to check the weather, trail conditions, and avalanche forecasts. Always share your trip plans with your friends or family too!
Our winter outfit consists of the following: quick-drying underwear, wicking and warm base layer, insulating mid-layer, waterproof-breathable outer-layer, water-resistant gloves, hiking socks, insulated hiking boots, gaiters, snowshoes, and poles.
And for our dogs, we always pack the warming midlayer and expedition parka from Hurtta in our backpacks, as well as protective booties 🐾
As you can see, Noora and Lugz were all smiles in their Hurtta outfit, as the snowfall combined with an icy wind made for some cold conditions on our hike.
