Here are a few highlights from this year’s hunting season. In addition to seeing my dog Andi again (check out last year’s video if you haven’t done so), I’ve added a very young setter, Goose, who found more wild birds as a 9 and 10 month old dog than nearly any dog I’ve ever owned. Watch Goose transform from a dog with no wild bird hunting experience to one who is beginning to learn how they’re to be handled!

oh my [Applause] goodness ah shoot 7 and a half month old pup is is when it gets [Music] [Music] fine here are a few clips from some of my hunts this year the first half is just of my adult female Andy and the last half includes Andy and a very young dog of mine a set male I call Goose please stay to the end because you can watch Goose transform from a dog with no wildbird experience the one hunt close Andy knows there’s a high probability of a bird being in the area fudge everybody has to decide how much they’re going to allow young dogs to get away with during their first season but I’m usually going to air on the side of keeping things fun as long as it doesn’t appear that my pointer is becoming a flusher you got your snoot full huh goose there she [Applause] is I really want to absolutely you too all righty thank you nothing like a CV of birds to excite a young dog before the season I worked Goose lightly on pigeons and LA launchers both pointing and backing but I stopped as little one may want I missed that one I was going to say the little one may want to go the young one may want to go when I go good job guys oh there they go there they go shoot went in the woods could get him in for a back but I want to go ahead and hopefully kill this bird how’s that possible I’m going see if I can’t get goose in for a back goose this not only gets goose in on the action but 1. I hunt gambles quail in New Mexico with English setters and they act way different from bob whites. They run and run and run till the find thick cover than they hold well. And they covey into giant groups of at least 15 birds.

  2. That was fun to watch. I took my GSP (not quite 2 yet) hunting wild grouse, woodcock, pheasants, and quail this year. The transformation brought on by truly wild birds is beautiful to watch.

  3. Nice video Mark. I enjoy watching your training videos. I train my 10-year-old German Wirehair pointer and now I’m working on eight month old Katie German Wirehair pointer. I had her in Montana and North Dakota and she’s coming along very well naturally backing thanks for sharing your time and videos.
