In today’s video, we are going to talk about some interesting facts and myths about the Ocicat Cat.
The cat looks fierce and wild.
These beautiful spotted kitties may look like cats straight from the wild, but they’re actually 100 percent domesticated cat. In fact, the ocicat is one of the most sociable, gentle and adoring of all cats. Its distinguished black spots remind one of a leopard or an ocelot, but the markings came about by accident when a breeder hoped to mix the Siamese cat’s pointed coloring with the short haired, ticked coat, regal looking Abyssinian cat. The result was a wild looking short haired cat with distinct markings, bone structure and a sleek yet powerful body with an intelligent mind and a loving and gentle personality. The ocicat is one of the most popular cats in the world.
The Ocicat is a one-of-a-kind conversation starter and a favorite of many cat admirers.
Here are some interesting facts you didn’t know about the Ocicat cat breed.
1. Ocicat Cat’s Behavior.
Most Ocicats are friendly and are not shy. This makes them a good family pets. Most Ocicat Cats can also get along well with other animals. Their mood and actions are similar to those of a dog. Most can be trained to fetch toys, walk on a leash, come when called, and other dog-related tricks. And these pets need attention from their owners.
2. Ocicat Cat’s Temperament.
The ocicat is highly social and engaging with human companions. While they’re accepting of virtually all family members and strangers, these cats are likely to form particularly strong bonds with one specific person in their households and follow them around the most.
Ocicats can very easily be trained to perform a number of tasks and tricks, such as walking on a leash and coming when their names are called, as well as sit, stay, and fetch. They are smart enough to understand not only meaning but context, so they’ll pick up on your commands and desires relatively quickly.
3. Ocicat Cats are not Wild.
While it appears that the ocicat is a wild cat. It is not. The cat breed looks similar to the wild ocelot. The small, svelte wild cat is found in the southwestern United States and in parts of South and Central South America. The ocicat was named because of its resemblance to the ocelot, but the ocicat is entirely domestic. There’s not a bit of wild cat in its D N A. The ocicat came about through breeding three types of domestic cats over the course of several years. The first cross breeding attempt was between the Siamese cat and the Abyssinian cat. Later the American Shorthair cat was added to the mix. The result, a wild looking and fierce looking cat with a gentle, adoring and intelligent disposition.
4. Ocicat Cats Love being Entertained.
The ocicat is an independent cat, but the pet does enjoy being entertained. If left alone for long periods of time, it’s wise to have a companion pet for the ocicat, especially another cat that won’t mind the ocicat’s innate leadership tendencies. It’s important to remember that the ocicat is intelligent. When choosing a toy for the cat, a fetching toy or batting toy is great, but more complex toys will keep the cat occupied for lengths of time. Ocicats respond well to agility and puzzle toys. Giving the cat a problem to solve will help stretch his or her attention span. The ocicat will relish fresh air. Periodically getting out of the house, the cat will thrive. Because the cat takes well to leashes, an outdoor walk can be an enjoyable experience. The cat loves a good sunbeam indoors though.

This is really helpful because I’m getting a ocicat cat soon
This is my patronus.
I miss my ocicat, my friend found one under a car at a car dealership as a kitten, and gave him to me, I raised him and have always been happy with the little guy, very friendly and loving.
Rescued my baby when he was still a few days old. Turned out he’s an ocicat and he perfectly matches your description!
My ocicat died in January of this year due to heart failure. She would have been 18 years old in August. I still miss her. She was the most unique pet I’ve ever owned.
Should you feed it wet or dry food?
Thank you, Mr. Roboto
