During our kittens initial diagnosis of Manx syndrome there was little discussion other than the immediate recommendation of euthanasia. Luckily, we refused their recommendation and Lilo, our Manx, is now living her best life. These are some of the things we have learned since her diagnoses and hope it can help other Manx parents too.

As the owner of 2 Manx cats (one "normal" and one more special) I appreciate your videos on this subject.
You said this video wasn't about slamming the vet. I disagree, I think you have every right to slam the vet, they are supposed to be the informed professional helping the client to understand all aspects of the condition, and all the options available. They clearly didn't do this. Hope you find a better veterinarian. I'm glad Lilo has such loving parents! ☺️
I just lost an entire litter to Manx syndrome
How early/young would someone know if their kitten has it? Is the risk lower if they are a stumpie rather than rumpie? I’m considering adopting a Manx kitten but after having 2 hospice babies (1 can and 1 puppy) this past year idk if I’m emotionally able to handle a special needs baby again right now.
Thank you so much for making and uploading this video. It was incredibly encouraging.
Thank you so much for this video. I just adopted a Manx rumpy whom has had and continues to have incontinence issues. I'm in the process of having him diagnosed and figuring things out. This video will assist in that effort.
We just adopted two sister Manx kittens. One is a Stumpy & the other a Rumpy. Our Rumpy has all of the same issues as your kitty. I feel deceived by the lady that bred them. She’s been breeding them for years & has had many Manx. I feel that she should have been more straight forward with us concerning possible conditions. She had to have known. When we picked up the kitty, she was completely clean & had to have been freshly bathed. The issues started immediately when we got home & our little sweetheart has needed constant care. I did ask the lady a few days after we got her about her bowls & issues & she just blew it off. Just be honest! Thanks to your video & others I have found out what is going on & this gives us some hope on moving forward. Thank you.
Our male, stubby Manx required an operation at two years old to clear his obstructed bowel. He was active and seemed to be in good health for the next ten years. At twelve, he began throwing up food and liquid anywhere and everywhere in the house. A year later, he had begun to use our bed spread as his full time cat box. I dealt with washing the bed spread daily for a few months and then decided I couldn't deal with the situation any longer. He was almost fourteen years old when I took him to his final visit with the vet. They gave him one shot which put him to sleep and then a second shot to stop his heart. I still tear up when I think about that day.
The vets I've seen don't seem to really care that much about the pets, as if they don't mind if they put them down or treat them. Vet #1 guessed at a diagnosis of irritable bowel disease, without doing any labwork or x-rays, just based on food and steroid trial (then I moved away). My Manx throws up, but is not incontinent. We have her on prednisolone (steroid), and that controls the vomiting, but I wonder if she has Manx Syndrome and they just didn't know about the disease. They didn't seem to think her being a Manx made any difference. Vet #2 barely looked at her, I had to ask him to inspect her teeth, and spent most of the visit telling me about his life and asking me about mine, as if he was sizing me up! Grrrrr! Think I'll try a different vet next time. I love my cat like a child. Can't they see that?!
Our vets are saying surgery is an option. Does anyone have any insight into this?
THANK U 🙏 DEAREST I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS CONDITION AND TO THINK WITH A LITTLE EXTRA TIME AND EFFORT THE KITTIES 🐱

my cat has had litter box uses for a few years now and my (might i add very expensive) vet has hardly mentioned anything about the morphology of her spine and how it affects her. i have to Google it. don't see why I would pay if they can't really tell you much ¯_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯.
Thank you for sharing all you learned.
I can totally relate. I adopted a cat from a local animal shelter. I was told she was tailless due to trauma. WRONG – she is a rumpy Manx. Almost immediately after adoption I noted the urinary issues. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a UTI. After a round of antibiotics there was no improvement. So another round of meds. There was minor improvement. She uses the litterbox "normally" but also leaks constantly. Her bowel function seems to be ok. I am currenty looking for a different vet. I am sure we are dealing with a degree of Manx syndrome. Hopefully, I can find a vet who knows something about Manx cats.
