Great build nice job, but the commercial models are a kid's size. Hardly an impartial comparison; they've about half the surface area of your DIY ones, so of course they're going to sink further… just saying.
your commercial snow shoes are tiny for the size of guy you are. That's why they don't work. Snow shoes are all about distributing the weight of course the commercial ones suck when they are kids or women's snow shoes on a full grown man
Nice build. Good comparison. Im currently working on some PVC snowshoes. Probably will cost $10 for the pair. I also have some aluminium laying around. Might try that too.

i think it has a lot to do with shape and proportion…i am trying to decide how what dimensions i want for mine now.. any thoughts?
