The basenji may be a shy dog who is affectionate with his family yet wary of strangers. They used to hunt in packs and are typically good with other dogs if socialized as puppies. On the other side, some basenjis can be abrasive with other basenjis.
Basenjis are bright yet tough to teach dogs. They demand creative and attentive treatment to bring forth their best qualities. Despite the fact that they don’t bark, the yodeling makes quite a ruckus. If left to their own devices, they may be chewers and diggers.
Because they groom themselves by licking and are quiet, Basenji breeders and owners characterize them as “catlike.” They also seem to like climbing to high heights, maybe to survey their territory.
Basenjis are rambunctious dogs who need and enjoy regular romps or runs. Two of their favorite hobbies are agility and lure courses. Basenjis are no longer widely used for hunting, but they make wonderful household dogs and may live up to 13 years old.
