The Neapolitan Mastiff is considered to be a descendent of the Molosso. In the south of Italy, animal breeders wanted to create a mastiff that maintained the dimensions and strength of the Molosso. By crossing the molosso with the Tibetan mastiff came the Neapolitan mastiff, who had all the desired characteristics. Until the second world war, mastino napoletano was a prized secret of Italy. After the war, the Italians started to promote this dog breed all over the world.
