ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Hound group and on a truly International final day at crafts we welcome our final group judged from Norway Born Into the world of greyhounds his Jets prefix was begun with his mother in 1975 and has become world-renowned he began his judging a career in 1987 here in the UK he is passed to award cc’s to 142 breeds plus all all seven groups and Best in Show this is his eth UK group Hound group appointment please put your hands together for the hugely Talented Mr Espen en escorted into the ring by the crft chairman Mr Tom M and there’s our judge for the Hound group this year it’s Espen en from Norway a world Authority on all the hounds he’s third generation breeder of gry hounds his mother started before him and her father before that they’ve read over 244 Champion grey hounds amazing so the hounds are going to enter these dogs all originally bed for hunting either by smell or by sight and the first into the arena is the Elegance of the Afghan Hound gleaming coat followed by the bassi here is the Basenji the from the Congo area of Africa next we have the bass De Bron in comes the bass F de bronia asent BFF and here’s the grand Basset Griffin ven the largest of the Basset family our next best bre is the Basset Griffon Von Griffon Von patite the smaller version next we have the Basset Hound here’s the one that we perhaps all know best it’s the bastard hound and now we’re joined by the Bavarian comes the Bavarian Mountain Hound just 10 of them at crafts this year bounding in enthusiastically the beagle and here comes the Beagle from a very big entry today second time she’s been best to breed here followed by The Blood Hound The Blood Hound is another famous and well recognized sent Hound we’re now joined by our best to breed booy the elegance and glamour of The Boro the Russian wolfhound followed by the chel here comes the Cheno Dell etner quite as well known as some of those other hounds a scent Hound now we have the first of our Dax this is the long hair first of the Dax the standard long haad D can begin now and the miniature long head following swiftly after our next action is the smooth head and here’s the standard smooth a red one coming in now followed by the miniature smooth head and the smaller version the miniature smooth head daon we’re then joined by the wire head daon here’s the standard wire we’ve seen one of those wind Bes ins short profs in recent years followed by the miniature wire head ja and here comes the miniature again harsher denser [Applause] undercoat waiting in the wings the next we’re joined the curving graceful lines of the dear Hound can’t get more of a contrast with the taxans can you and then we have our best debr Finnish SP here’s the national dog of Finland is The Finnish spits we’re now joined by the foxhound and one of the rarer breeds at CRS the foxhound followed by the Greyhound and the Greyhound popular breed but it is on the vulnerable breeds list joining us next is the hammer stver the Swedish foxhound now the Hamilton stare coming only in this Rich triol har and here is the har now there is a bit of breed history because this is a working pack Hound shown by the Huntsman here today the aan Hound comes in dog which has its roots in ancient Egypt followed by the Irish Wolfhounds oh gentle giant the Irish Wolfhounds joining us next is the Norwegian Elkhound distinctive Gray coat of the Rian elk Hound making an entrance then we have the best of breed otter Hound oh the wonderfully rustic otter Hound almost extinct not so many years ago phoh Hound comes the Pharaoh Hound jumping over the Shadows very they are athletic you know portugueseo the little Portuguese Warren dog the Portuguese Pango rabbit Hunters from the rabbit Hunters to the lion Hunters the ration ridgeback then this looks very smart coming in now followed by the Saluki here’s the Elegance of the Saluki a youngster now we’re joined by the slugi and comes the slugi a North African dog originally followed by the Whippet H from the biggest entry almost 400 here here’s the best of breed finally the winner of the the import register and the import register winner is the aaok sound originating from the Sahara hand over to Kim and Jenny sh wheeler in the commentary box thank you Stuart and we move straight group it’s a big group Frank and the judge is going to have quite a task on his hand here to choose a short list and then a winner for best in show yes the Hound group is made up of a mixture of sight hounds those that hunt when they see the Quarry and they’re usually gallopers as opposed to the scent hounds they’re usually shorter legs so they can get their head to the ground and take in the scent so the short legs for scent long legs for the sight hounds a lot of these breeds will enjoy quite a significant amount of exercise as well they always ready for a walk yes yes and if you let them off you often don’t get them back again they go on on the hunt so many different shapes body shapes in this Hound group haven’t we and that’s what Espin would be taking on in now are they the right shape for the breed the right shape outline and balance importantly are they fit for function for that function for which they were originally bred to do s hounds and the scent hounds I judge you’ll get a closer look movement and carriage topped by a glamorous coat typify the sight hound from Afghanistan well the Afghan Hound is elegance and glamour this is a sight hound originated in the Afghan desert Plains hunting either there or in the rugged mountains the deer gazelle or smaller game like hairs and foxes of hunting and this one has come from Australia to Wi best breed today so that’s a journey made worthwhile so they are exotic and glamorous and these standard says they should move with a style of high order really carrying themselves elegantly a light lift to their movement a ring to the tail and that coat has to develop naturally doesn’t it yes that saddle along the back should develop naturally not trimmed in so 2-year-old Winston has flown all the way here from Perth in West Australia judged today by Frank Kane and from an entry of 65 Frank chose this and on the table now the Basenji and this is a Hound which goes back to ancient the time of the Pharaohs you can see dogs like this on the tombs of the Pharaohs but it’s thought they come from the Congo area of Africa and they should resemble a gazelle in miniature they’re long limed shortbed with his tight tail over the back this one coming from Sweden I had the pleasure of judging the breed today high quality 67 of them here and this one very convincing winner for me and since then the breed has increased steadily so what was it about this particular 5-year-old that really caught your eye well he he’s got the fine bone and the long Limbs and the neat ears and that wonderful tail turned at over the back a tight to Cur tail and this wonderful swinging stride and there wonderful reach and drive in that fantastic Top Line his dog of the year in Sweden found her best of breed in this number 16481 the b f britanna it’s a scent Hound that developed in Britany and capable of hunting almost anything the colors can be for gold Wheaten or red Wheaten and the judge will be looking for a rough coat but flat and this is a three-year-old called bunny being a Rel recal in the UK and they only come in this color the Basset fo means thn they have this rustic double coat hard on top soft undercoat they hunt in peirs I’ve seen the little and they have small packs of them at the Center in chanelli in France and it’s wonderful to see them working in their paired collar Jud be looking for that tail to be set High tapering to a point and carried like a sickle as we can see there when moving B gri V Grand and from an entry of 26 and here’s the largest of the baset hand varieties the gr Basset Griffin ven everything is long and scopy about this this long Noble head the long fine with it inward Cur a long body and a long tail Hina this dog six years old come here from the Netherlands is a Champion Dog already multiple best in shows head should have Franken Noble look to it yes it’s a sort of lovely clean skull and the ears are fine with a slight inward twist now they have this weatherproof top coat but it’s very important that they are not over trimmed they should look sculptured they have to retain a rustic look that’s our best GFF very nice stride there the tail per tail Carriage is perfect and a wonderful Top Line a very nice picture also judged by well this particular B GFF v h two-year-old W best of breeds at crafts last year as well the second of the bass Griffin Von breed this one was short is the pity variety it size and amiable nature they origin everything is more moderate about the P it’s a shorter head shorter ears and a shorter tail but the same rustic appearance with this double coat they’ve become hugely popular showd dogs all over the world because they just love their show dogs and they really love moving and showing off only describes this one as always being happy and loving life in the countryside dodg will be looking for great dve on the your best of breed Prett B Griffin number that same lovely movement and Top Line and tail Carriage turns his attention to the Basset hand they were judged today by Ken MC 12 now here is the Basset Hound the Basset variety we probably are most familiar with from the time of Fred Bard now this it’s thought that it comes they were originally bred by French monks from the Middle Ages there’s reference to basat trailing their ears in the Jew in Shakespeare’s plays they are a lot of substance in that frame strong bone this again the fine turned ears it’s important that they don’t have too much loose skin or wrinkle nothing should be EXA exaggerated we see a little pouch of hair pouch of skin over the Hawks that’s permitted but it shouldn’t be exaggerated one of the new this is 18mon old Curtis judged by Hans venberg we have the Bavarian Mountain Hound Best of breed here’s the Bavarian Mountain Hound Best of breed only 10 of them at crofs this year and 23-month old bear was best of breed an agile and athletic Hound developed to use its nose to track down wounded game steep sles the dog is so there was sort of miniature Blood Hound really and again they’re they’re built for work sturdy bone triangular shaped head NE ears large and again carrying itself well it’s able to get its head down to the center officially coming only this dark color sometimes with a black mask as we see here bestan Mound number calm and devoted temperament is what the judge looking for this one still looks a young and from an entry of 184 beagles best to breed was this number 16800 and here is the Beagle coming from a big entry today it’s the smallest of the British pack hounds and it was bred to hunt hairs and to be followed on foot not horseback established in the 16th century and in fact Queen Elizabeth the had a pack of miniature beagles pocket beagles we call them first kept a pocket pack of well this is Tiana who won best of breed at craft in 2023 as well has been top beagle last year so he’s had plenty of success Frank already yeah coming from a good kennel the anavar kennel nothing exaggerated about the Beagle got this lovely soft head and expression everything’s built for [Applause] work and very nice stride here with lovely Top Line and enjoying the time in the Big Ring had her best breed Choice was this dog number 169 one of the older dogs turning seven years of age next week this is Mission The Blood Hound and it’s a really famous well recognized breed got a big chair coming into the arena the scent Hound that was bred in Britain since before 1300 this is a Champion Dog 19th century he was used to resue the French and he’s a wonderful working dog as well he’s been very successful in working tests this is a category three breed Ali so which means that it’s had the best of breed W confirmed by Veterinary examination after the judging they were prone in the past to have exaggeration of skin which caused eye problems and so the Breeders have worked hard in actually this dog here has a Gold Award for the health test marvelous those ears a particular feature should be thin and soft to the touch and particular long falling in those graceful folds elant in spectacular breed true Aristocrat of the HS here the elegance and glamour of the bosoy the Wolfhound of the Russian aristocracy is thought it h comes down from the Greyhound its name bosoy means Swift and these hunting days in the Russian aristocracy were very glamorous Affairs the dogs hunting in pears working on the wolves from either side till they brought the wolf down everything about the bzo is aerodynamic well this one Frank has come from Tokyo we’ve already seen the Jack Russell from Japan make it through the best in sh it’ be quite something if we had another dog from Japan go through and we see this rise over the loin that’s to give it muscular power in driving forward and Galloping power we now to one of the more oh lovely Style holding that top line on the move this light lifting gate 23 for judge Jeff horwell to Pride over best was this dog The Cho D etner was used for hunting rabbits near Mount etner hence getting that name 23 of them at CS this year and it is a a sent Hound his large is give an acute sense of of hearing but also can hunt by sight as well also hunt by sight and has aute sense of hearing and again it has a similarity with the Pharaoh Hound which we’ll see later and it dates back to ancient times of the Pharaohs and dogs like this and the Pharaoh H could be seen on the of the Egyptians SLE in coach light in its movement a look of athleticism about it the springy Trot is a real feature of this breed and this is five and a half year old the da varieties now on the table we see the longair daxon judged today by now the first of the daxon family on the table now this is the standard long hair the Dax and hails from Germany where it was known as the tle which means Bader dog and that was one of the Quarry which they hunted they should be fit to track the game and also go to ground after it so that’s why they loow to ground was their original purpose the long variety of the you’re judging this group as well the long hair duck Frank this year no I did I did the standard smooth today we’ll see later but that you all share the same standard they’re supposed to be fairly low to ground moderately long in the body not exaggerated in the back back and there should be this conical Head Strong Jaws to help them to do their job well one of the great challenges is to have the low to ground dog with freedom of movement they haven’t to be too low to ground some ground clearance is necessary and again a very nice top line striding out and getting the Hawks well underneath it had AED entry of 115 this year at so here is the miniature long head preferably weighing under 5 kg they should still be well muscled and compact with enough ground clearance to enable free movement and this is a 2-year-old from Northern Ireland called Sparkle with the obvious exception of one of the great challenges in breeding any miniature breed is to get the same quality and good Construction in a smaller mold and the Dax and breeders have all worked very hard to get good quality in this smaller size this one the miniature long so they have this Feathering on the back legs on the ears and a dense weatherproof top coat this one a black and T that’s the miniature lad da 17183 the low build that we see in those strong four quarters would have helped the breed going to ground and digging going after rabbits and badges is the The smoo Da judged today by Frank Kan from an entry of and I had the pleasure of judging this variety today the Smooth haired standard variety this one a red dog it’s the second of the coat TS this is smooth coat it’s a dense coat smooth and has lovely soft texture to it we can see here this deep chest good underline and a level Top Line his conical shaped head make this breed an ideal family companion so basically Frank like the long head but he’s taking his jacket off that absolutely right now again the says they should be brave to the point of rashness as though they were working dogs they should be ready to take on anything there’s been some problems in recent years of getting getting them a little timid and getting them you know sometimes they can be a bit reserved today this dog showed beautifully he’s striding out nicely now and what I like about him is free from exaggeration he’s not too long he’s not too low a very nice picture of the level Top Line the Deep body and striding out she had a super entry of 199 well this one’s pet name is Diva will we see some D activity in the show ring a 2-year-old female who’s come here from Italy and this one again the miniature smooth head daxon and Queen Victoria was a big daxon fan but those numbers have fallen away over time 24 of them uh sorry 199 rather here at CRS this year so big group it is perhaps the most popular variety these days and I must say this looks a particularly good one it’s got everything that you’d want in a daxon scaled down here this lovely chest Moving Straight towards us that’s very good front movement and carrying yourself with great confidence so there may be the mini of variety but they’re full of attitude best number4 the 2-year-old Diva here from Italy described by the owner very sweet and exuberant was the wirehead daon judge here at CRS best of breed and here on the table now the wirehead variety the standard wire one of my favorite varieties got this this rough coat the whiskers and eyebrows give them the look of a wise old man I think and there he’s looking around very composed the judge just looking at the shoulders feeling the bone and the texture of the coat hard close Ling coat which is Harsh and worry enough about that expression of of wiseness in the face and the head Carriage it’s maybe the eyebrows which helps to give that sense of expression appearance and his head those legs and feet should be neatly covered with that wiry harsh coat it should be wiry not soft it has to be protective in the thick undergrowth with all the temperament characteristics of the other Dax and varieties that’s our best this one a big winning dog from Cumbria and he’s had group wins in the past so will he do well tonight we’ll soon know the last but by no means least of our this 5-year-old has traveled from Spain called Tut so we’ve got the miniature variety of the wi hair Dax so that same harsh outer coat and dense undercoat although it should be much lighter smaller dog should still be well mused and compact number again lovely proportions it’s got good ground clearance it’s got some daylight underneath it lovely length of body and a very good coat this one has one World winner that’s best agreed at the world show four times that’s a tremendous record and Great Character she’s she’s been here before she’s very wise and a great show girl No Lack of confidence here absolutely strting her stuff dead and alert they make excellent little watchs too that’s your best of breed Min described by the owner as the best daxon in the world says seriously a queen really clever and our judge esing turns his attention to the deer hand now 90 o one of my favorite Hound greets the deer Hound it’s a large rough coated dog of Greyhound Origins we can see a lot of the Greyhound in it in the head shape in the backline with his arch over the loin but Top by this rustic coat to give it protection all curves we see the judge there just running his hand along feeling the texture after perod of the efforts ofand well it’s yet another dog who is a a repeat appearance here because a pearl 6 years old W best a breed at craft in 2023 as well yes a very big wi and a bey a beautiful specimen of the breed this lightness on the move when we see that Arch over the loin she’s carrying herself nicely our best dear 17824 pearls the just going just like a deerhound lovely lines Elegance with a bit of substance do carried out judging duties with the 10 here to and he found here’s the Finish spits best of Bri called Thunder from Bridgewater the national dog of Finland is The Finnish spiter originally bred to hunt elk and bear and they bark to signal that they’ found something but nowadays that bark is used to signal that game bird has been found up in the trees so helping helping Hunters when in number of national patriotic songs include mention now I think we could say this was the noisiest of the hounds because they are noisy even as pets if you’ve got one they make very good guard dogs interesting about them is they’ got this iridescent red coat sort of glow comes from it underneath it they should be quite lightly built they have to be athletic and firm and again spits like it’s got this tail arched over its back stunning bright red coat interestingly the puppies have black hairs which then decrease with age judged is the foxhound judged today by Pamela Mar Pollock Mr breed was this 17918 the origin of the fox hound dates back to around the 13th century when fox hunting began to suede now here is the foxhound only about six here today rarely seen in the show ring the English breed was originally used as a pack Hound for hunting Fox many packs develop their own type some of them smooth coated as we see here some of them rough coated everything should be functional they have to be athletically built able to gallop for long periods deep chest for Heart and Lung room this one is still a youngster and ability to get on with other dogs and the fox hound Frank on the vulnerable breed list there were just two at crafts in 2022 a couple of years ago there were three this year still low isn’t it they’re still not very popular in the shorings in this country but in America and Australia they’ve been established for much longer and more popular [Applause] there lean and athletic this one’s still young she’s got some developing to do but she’s going nicely there mened in the forest laws made by King in 106 jacn White really popular breed the Greyhound they do make wonderful pets that long head the elegant neck the judge you be looking for long-legged of course and this is a 3-year-old Greyhound called Violet gounds are generally believed to have been brought to Britain what a beautiful picture of Elegance everything symmetrical and curving but also the PowerHouse in these deep chest well sprung ribs to Give a Heart and Lung room for long Galloping spells very smooth inaction look at it Daisy cutting across the the floor there coming from a famous kennel in Sweden the so K they’ve had many big jump wonderful movement of this Greyhound beautiful symmetry as well to be judged as the Hamilton St judged today by rny doin from an entry of 21 rest bre now the Hamilton St the Swedish foxhound coming only in this Rich tricolor pattern now it was bred from English English fox hounds originally and developed by count which is where he gets his name from so English Fox Hound crossed with German hounds Hamilton also the found of the Swedish this one two-year-old Leo who is said to be as happy sitting on the sofa as he is running out in the fields he’s won several best of read at Championship shows a big result for very handsome dog he looks really smart striding out well gleaming in condition he’s hard Hound condition1 that’s a very smart dog judg today for us bya Pollock the Harrier this a four-year-old female the Harrier and sizewise the the Harrier you’ll see sitting between the taller foxhound and the smaller beagle its confirmation and appearance is pretty similar to those two but it mission was originally to hunt hair here’s a bit of breed history here because this is a pack Hound from the hul pack based near hul in laner and I can’t remember ever pack hounds being shown at CRS atth this one has been champion at the Peter at the great Yorkshire show these were Hound shows where they’re shown off a lead on the flags as we say and here Huntsman Mark Dixon Bradley showing the and very smart it is angles AR is called your best breed Harrier number 1819 so this a champion dog and a pack Hound called angelar it’s the turn of thean hound now judged by Pamela Mar Po from an entry of 31 and here is the Ean Hound ancient breed distinguished by these large ears this wedge shaped head and this lean athletic body obviously a sight hound it has some ID synes you see that the biskuit is is not as deep as other hounds it doesn’t reach the elbow that’s a breed feature and this light hovering Trot this resulted in I’ve heard it described Frank as the the lean the lean mean rabbit machine fit for function but it’s usual isn’t it to be able to see that rib cage in in many of the hounds which come from hot countries they don’t carry a lot of subcutaneous fats because that helps them to cope with the eat now we come and there we see that slight hover with the legs before it puts its feet down the hovering tr9 and she chose as her best to breed this dog number well there were 129 Irish Wolfhounds being judged today and it really was quite a spectacle out in the sh Rings this is the biggest of all the dog breeds it is on the vulnerable breed list but the Irish wol found this one a 2-year-old called Maloy from Italy Irish El in now here’s a challenge to breed giant breeds but keep them sound so they have light and easy movement this comes from a famous kennel in Italy Luda Solomon she’s a vet and she’s bred many beautiful Champions the Irish number 18151 the judge looking for that movement to be muscular yet graceful the Giants gentle Giants Irish Wolfhound 2 best of breed was this 182 and here’s the Norwegian Elkhound norian in Norway remains of dogs like this were found in Viking Graves and it suggested that they’ve been there for centuries they were used to Track Elk where their resident barking attracted the Huntsman and they held the elk at bed in Scandinavia for at least 5,000 years with the current breed standards this dog has been American champion Frank it’s Clemy is the name years years of age female strutting her stuff here they strongly built and functional this wonderful protective coat and the the markings Shades of Gray and we can see these harness markings lighter Shades over the shoulders there and the tail plumed over the back Compact and square and going very nicely Workman like you can see the sturdiness in that Hound with 22 she chose this dog number now the ears are a really unique feature of the otter Hound they should be long and pendul we can see there characteristically folded inwards this is a 5-year-old otter Hound from West Sussex called charm the however a small nule the nice thing about the otter hounds is that they’ve remained rustic the breaches who have them have kept them rustic and with working ability only about 20 years ago when the otter Hound hunting was otter hunting was made illegal many of the otter Hound packs were redundant only two packs gave stock to exhibitors the Kendall and the dump frer and from that stock we’ve retained this sound lovely quality of course originally bred to hunt otter you see this oily weather resistant coat and webbed feet sated by the ruling dasty of Egypt now the Elegance of the Pharaoh Hound it was loved by rulers of ancient Egypt carvings on in their remains in their tombs with them however it was native to Malta where it was a rabbish hunter and taken by Sailors to Egypts with them on their travels and reached Egypt gained popularity coming only in this Rich Russ red elegant cacious and freest striding with his lovely gaunt head and large prickers carrying its tail like a Sim and hunts using both scent and sound 285 beautiful stride and Top Line it looks like an athletic working H for the Portuguese Pango or Warren Hound she had 35 and chose this number one we got rabbit Hunter the Portuguese pedo also known as the Warren Hound which is a translation of Pango it was very popular in Portugal in the 16th century because it was ad Dept at controlling Vermin around the house but now is mostly a family dog and this hunting ability they come in three sizes this is the smallest size we have here and they come in rough coats and smooth coats and they are still hugely popular in its native Portugal because they’re great characters they were sort of the Jack Russell Portugal really you can see the character in them and it’s wiing it still furiously but however they are game little rabbit Hunters Portuguese Pango number 18307 this is 2-year-old Tre and the judge will be looking for a dog which is Swift and light on the Move attention to the ran ridgeback there were 251 Ridgebacks here today now this looks beautiful the rition Ridgeback picture of athleticism in this lovely russet color here the rition ridge back was developed to track game especially Lions inim R Used Zimbabwe fast on the athletic in tracking and courageous in holding it takes its name from The Ridge of hair which runs in the opposite direction along its spine the bre takes it name for a ridge ofir growing in the reverse Direction it was said that the better the ridge the more courage just the hunter this one’s striding out you can see the slight Ridge along its spine there the Deep chest it could have gone with a little bit more energy there she was beautiful standing still she might be just a little bit wary of the main Arena theed was Jud beautiful type lovely stride and deep athletic body number 18647 as her best of breed here is a 22mon old Saluki just such a striking appearance elegant should be light footed see that characteristic Feathering across the ears in particular here when we look at the head and used to be used to hunt hair Fox and gazelle the name coming from the ancient Arabian city of saluk doct onbs of Egyptian phara isn’t this a beautiful outline light and elegant that deep chest that we want in the sounds for Galloping and there’ll go this slight lift in its hovering movement this lightness and elegance course they were much prized by their nadic owners used to have shows with them along with their Arab horses as well who were prized often carried in the saddle and put down on the desert when they cited [Applause] game the Saluki should carry a dignified expression and the breed standard describes the eyes as being faithful and farseeing there were nine of them and best agreed was this 18700 now here is the Sal slugi a Rara Hound it’s a lean sight hound with some similarity to the Saluki but a completely different breed this one comes from Africa we can see the the ribs coming through under the coat that is typical it’s not a sort of case of malnutrition they carry no subcutaneous fat that helps them to deal with the heat in the desert only the part this is another young one Frank just 17 months old traveled here from Cornwall that head should be carried High shouldn’t it when on the move and you know they have to have a degree of Elegance but this one you can see it’s a young one it’s not yet fully developed in its chest you can see it looks like a teenager and just a light lifting gate not completely coordinated on the move but it’s a a young dog always a numerically breed there were a total of well by far the biggest breed entry in this Hound group is the Whippet 395 of them at crust at crusts and four-year-old fendy is one through as best of breed they really do make lovely family dogs real gentle and affectionate nature the judge will be looking here for a long lean head should be flat on top tapering to the muzzle be no doubt that the breed was developed in England the whiet is all about curves Symmetry and curves mixed with athletic power it should go with this Daisy cutting action this clean front movement skimming the ground no lift at all and retaining it’s arched over the loin on the Move symmetry curves and this lovely smooth coat and now the final judges only looking for a balanced combination of muscular power and strength as well as elegance and Grace in that wonderful outline there were 50 import register and now from the import register we have perhaps one of the most dream of the hounds the azawak number11 it comes from Africa aak from the awak valley and it used to hunt in packs it is lean and angular we’ll see a very narrow chest this one a little loose on the Move we see there but the in in its angularity in the hip bones we see prominent bones of the hips a deep chest and a very short body loyal to their owners best it shows Its Ribs its lean athletic condition and so as judge takes one last look at all 34 of these best of breed well the judg has had a good look at all the best of breeds in the Hound group and we’re about to get a short list they put on a spectacular show for [Applause] us with so many beautiful Hounds in the ring it’s a tough decision for our Jud this evening but as a Hound expert I’m sure he’s in his elements now he’s just reminded himself of what he found on H and examination so coming into our hound short list this evening short listed the Basenji I’m happy about that in comes the gr Basset Griffin Ven and the long walk now the miniature smooth gets pulled forward from the duckson family and the standard wire out comes the Grey [Applause] Hound the Pharaoh Hound comes forward and the rition ridge back and there we have our short list for the Hound group there’s the standard wire looking alert of bre a very warm Round of Applause the ring eight shortlisted hounds who was going to fill the last vacant spot for the competition for Best in Show yes a reminder that we already have a French balog a papon a vama a leon burger an Australian shepherd and earlier this evening Jack Russell Terrier went through to Best in Show we’ve got quite a variety here Frank haven’t we and another chance now for the judge to see each of these on the move is the Veni this smart swinging stride this lovely Top Line and this tightly Cur team it’s going really stylishly Top Dog in Sweden last year yep the 5-year-old ipper now it’s the of the he’s the gr baset Griffin ven striding out the largest of the bset family coming from a famous kennel they’ve had lots of wins here dog six-year-old get me a champion dog get me yes and here’s the little bus striding out not to be outd by the larger cousin strutting strutting a stuff this one the younger one as well two years old Hemi comes from Somerset it’s the but this one bread in Palm Springs and this is a miniature smooth with the attitude of a standard smooth full of confidence beautifully made and covering the ground beautifully there that was two-year-old Diva we just saw and here’s the standard wire rustic workmanlike really striding out that you can almost feel the texture of that wire coat just looking at it four-year-old Alex from Cumbria now it’s the turn of the Greyhound here is the Greyhound a breed close to our judges heart they’ve bred over 200 Champions and their bloodlines spread right around the world y Violet traveling from Italy three years old it’s the phoh and here’s the Pharaoh Hound smooth live and athletic and this one Cella has just turned two female now here’s this lovely rition Ridge back she looks as though she’s settling a bit in the main Arena now beautiful quality and balance I’d just like to have gone with a little bit more ump at this stage going say these small things which will set part for another espen’s going to send them round he take which is always good to see send them round to look to look at the the gate The Swinging gate the top line going really smart this red and white and there is the gr Basset lovely stride the PE full of character and there’s that very confident mini smooth lovely make sure he gets a head start on the others they’re going to be catching up with him standard wire and there’s the Greyhound long striding smooth outline and the Pharaoh Hound very nice do like the description of the owner from the Pharaoh Hound saying she’ll steal your hearts and your dinner and your shoes if you leave them out and there is the rition ridgeback now he’s a man of decision Espen well the boards are being called out Frank which means he’s made his decision reowned all all over the world as a sound judge and he’s an all breeds judge but where’s he going the B Griffin has won it well this is the six-year-old get me well he did come and get it yes something for Joy second place the bengi how marvelous the peni goes into second place that was your judging Frank earlier yes I’m very happy and there’s the Greyhound those lovely [Applause] lines2 and theoh pharoh Hound in fourth place but it’s the gr Basset which will stay on a bit longer to compete for Best in Show later this evening yes and this dog is from the Netherlands six-year-old get me has been a champion job dog let here a bit of reaction and it’s the grand bass Griffon Von and look how excited to use yeah very tell us a little bit about this dog particularly well it’s a very special dog I get him from my sister when she moved to Australia to go on to show him here in Europe and well he just did and so is this his first time in the UK no no no it’s his fifth time he went uh went before here as crafts and went group four and group two so now he’s group one so now you got to go invest in shows they’re going to be any final preparation now I’ll come on I mean that’s just asking for it little bit water or something or no he’s ready for it well I think if you do if yeah if he does that again inves in show I think he’s going to be a big proud favor ladies and gentlemen and and the grand B Griffon Von winning the group oh he stolen a few Hearts there as well Frank I think as well get me that is get me what a character an absolute character so it is get me that grand bass Griffon Von who goes through to Best in Show and completes the lineup for this evening a very quick turnaround Ian SE he’s chairman of the dog health committee at the Kennel Club the confirmation and movement committee which looks at health issues in breed standards presenting the award there there’s that lovely bassen I’m so happy to see him placed in the group here yeah and are the Handler there that’s the 5-year-old IA the bji and the Greyhound three-year-old Violet traveled here from Rome in Italy and closing out fourth place the Pharaoh hand Pharaoh Hound who was just turned to sella from

Great judge for the short dogs
So many beautiful dogs this year. It's awesome to see these breeds keeping breed standards high.

This hound group is amazing
Seems the Wolfie is 1 of the most popular!
Loved your judging !!
Pelvic bone and vertebral bodies of the Afghan hound clearly visible @7:48. Shame on Crufts!
Was amazing to watch all the Bavarians showing this year ❤ my absolute favourite breed and well deserving to finally be getting some time in the spotlight
Announcers need to realize that this footage is packaged to be watched online, one group at a time, in no particular order. Giving out spoilers from the other groups was entirely unnecessary.
Fabulous greyhound and so sound.
The best of the groups!!!❤❤❤
is it just me or are greyhounds getting shorter faces?
Bloodhound should of won , he was beautiful
Top most beautiful dogs in the world that I know
so shocked the Afghan didnt place. such a beautiful dog
My baby Merida an Irish wolfhound moves easily but she sounds like a herd of horses running by it’s a good thing we don’t show though because even though she was the runt of the litter she grew up to be 36 inch’s at the shoulder and about 160lbs that puts Her at the top end of size for males so she wouldn’t have qualified for anyone thing maybe even not allowed to be in a dog show and that would have hurt her feelings and. I don’t allow that ever she’s going to be 5 yrs old at the end of this summer and we’ve been blessed by not having any health issues with her maybe if god smiles upon us she will stay that way for another10+years but who knows Does anybody knows what they are doing for the inbreeding. For them and their extinction I emailed someone in IWH medical research and another one with a save the IWH thing a few years ago and never got a respond from either one but they may have thought I was crazy asking about viable DNAfrom some of the old original dogs I know it’s highly unlikely to find some in a 4-5thousandyear old IWH body but maybe in a 5-6 hundred yr old one and they could inject some new blood so to speak into the breed that might go along way toward a healthier longer living breed revive the breed it cant be allowed to let this iconic breed that’s been around for over 5,000 years just die out that would be criminal. Sorry for the novel rant 34:52
Handsome irish wolfhound ! It's a fabulous dog !
Thank goodness the Ridgebacks are back in the hound category. I remember being horrified when they were removed due (I was led to understand) to being both sight and scent hounds in one dog, and therefore confused the groupings. I stopped watching Crufts for many, many years after that nonsensical decision.
my favoritt afghan hound
Would it be so much to ask to allow the trainers to wear jeans? I get nervous about a dress getting torn or pants splitting every time I watch these videos. Dresses are not made for running.
I love Hound Dogs! 🧡 because they’re great for going hunting with them!
